A beautiful example of the classic Leica Summicron 50mm f/2 Rigid, manufactured in 1958.
With serial number 1605796, this is one of the desirable early Rigid Summicrons, featuring the characteristic reverse-knurled focusing ring found on early production examples. It is a lovely detail that immediately distinguishes these early lenses from the later Rigid Summicrons.
The lens is in very nice cosmetic condition, showing only very minor signs of normal use. Please note that the photographs are slightly overexposed and do not represent the exterior finish quite as well as we would have liked. In person, the lens presents very nicely.
Optically, it is in excellent condition. The glass is beautifully clean and clear, with no scratches, haze or fungus. The focusing and aperture mechanisms operate smoothly and exactly as they should, and the rangefinder coupling is accurate and working perfectly.
The lens comes with a particularly nice selection of original Leica accessories. Included is the original Leica IROOA lens hood, complete with its matching hood cap, as well as an original Leica front cap with the traditional red felt lining.
An original later-type Leica rear cap is also included. This is actually preferable for regular use, as the older Leica rear caps have a tendency to become brittle and break with age.
Finally, the lens comes with an original Leica UVA filter.

Een prachtig exemplaar van de klassieke Leica Summicron 50mm f/2 Rigid, geproduceerd in 1958.
Met serienummer 1605796 betreft dit een van de gewilde vroege Rigid Summicrons, voorzien van de karakteristieke reverse knurling op de scherpstelring. Dit is een mooi detail waaraan deze vroege uitvoering direct te onderscheiden is van de latere Rigid Summicrons.
Cosmetisch verkeert het objectief in zeer goede staat, met slechts zeer lichte gebruikssporen. Houd er rekening mee dat de foto’s iets overbelicht zijn en daardoor de afwerking van het objectief niet helemaal goed weergeven. In werkelijkheid presenteert het objectief zich erg netjes.
Optisch verkeert het in uitstekende staat. Het glas is prachtig schoon en helder, zonder krassen, haze of schimmel. Zowel de scherpstelling als het diafragma werkt soepel en precies zoals het hoort. Ook de meetzoekerkoppeling functioneert correct en nauwkeurig.
Bij het objectief wordt een bijzonder mooie verzameling originele Leica-accessoires geleverd. Aanwezig is de originele Leica IROOA zonnekap, compleet met het bijbehorende kapje voor de zonnekap. Daarnaast is er een originele Leica voordop met de karakteristieke rode vilten binnenzijde.
Ook wordt een origineel Leica achterdeksel van het latere type meegeleverd. Voor daadwerkelijk gebruik is dit eigenlijk de betere uitvoering, aangezien de oudere Leica achterdeksels door ouderdom nogal eens bros worden en breken.
Tot slot wordt het objectief geleverd met een origineel Leica UVA-filter.
